Hitachi Energy has announced a €30 million investment to relocate and expand its dry transformer factory in Zaragoza to new state-of-the-art facilities at the Zaragoza Logistics Platform ( Plaza ). The new factory, scheduled for completion by the end of 2026, will have more than 22,000 square meters , allowing for increased capacity and the creation of new jobs , the company said in a statement.
The company is a world leader in transformer manufacturing, with 60 plants worldwide. These devices are an important part of the energy value chain, enabling efficient transmission and distribution of electricity and facilitating the decarbonisation of energy systems. They are a key component for applications such as renewable energy integration, grid interconnections, powering data centres and electrification of transport.
With this investment, Hitachi will move its factory in the Aragonese capital, which is currently located on Avenida Manuel Rodríguez Ayuso, between Valdefierro and Montecanal, to a new location in Plaza. The complex will incorporate new machinery and automation to increase production and meet growing demand and will have a LEED Gold certification in sustainable architectural design, “guaranteeing the balance between environmental care, social well-being and economic growth.”
The project is part of the company’s global plan to invest more than 1.5 billion dollars to increase global transformer production and demonstrates “the confidence placed in the Zaragoza team ,” as pointed out by Verónica Ruiz, the company’s head of transformer business in Europe. In turn, the Country Managing Director of Hitachi Energy Spain, Alfredo García-Borreguero, stated that these moves “reinforce the commitment to meet growing global demand, with the necessary speed and scale.”
