The Minister of Environment and Mobility, Tatiana Gaudes, participated on behalf of the Mayor of Zaragoza, Natalia Chueca, in the third meeting of the Mission Mayors Advisory Group of the European Commission’s One Hundred Smart and Climate-Neutral Cities Mission, held in Vilnius, Lithuania, within the framework of the mission’s annual conference.
Representatives from various cities, including Zaragoza, participated in sectoral conferences focused on addressing challenges related to the environment, financing, mobility, and the energy system, among others, with the goal of making progress toward the commitments established for 2030.
This strategic forum, promoted by the European Commission, brings together mayors of cities committed to climate neutrality to provide policy advice and coordinate priority actions alongside institutions such as the European Parliament, the European Commission and the Committee of the Regions.
At the meeting, attended by representatives of the advisory group from the selected cities, the strategic priorities of the group were highlighted and a proposal for joint contributions to the new European Urban Agenda was presented.
The Cities New Policy Agenda is a European Commission initiative that aims to redefine and strengthen the role of cities in the design, implementation, and evaluation of European policies, particularly in the context of the green, digital, and socially just transition. The Agenda represents a necessary step forward by concentrating concrete governance and financing instruments in a single document.
The Agenda is expected to be presented by Raffaele Fitto next June in Krakow and officially adopted later this year.
