As the hours pass following the tragic train accident in Adamuz (Cordoba) , official reports have raised the number of confirmed deaths to 41 after the fatal incident on Sunday when an Iryo (Malaga-Madrid) train derailed on a straight section of track as it crossed paths with an Alvia Madrid-Huelva train traveling at over 200 kilometers per hour.
This Tuesday, the work continues by the deployed emergency contingent, now focused on moving and lifting the Alvia train, which ended up falling down a steep and difficult-to-access terrain, which has increased the complexity of the emergency.
There are fears of finding more fatalities, as the number of missing persons remains significant, especially after firefighters located three more bodies yesterday, which they were unable to access due to safety concerns . More bodies could be found within the wreckage and under the wrecked train cars that have not yet been moved.
As reported by Cadena SER , rescue and technical teams continued their work throughout the night at the accident site, focusing on installing a large crane to lift the Alvia train carriages. Early Tuesday morning, coinciding with the start of the official mourning period, rescue services located another body on the Iryo Málaga-Madrid train that derailed, according to the Andalusian emergency services (112). The last three carriages of this train derailed, causing the tragedy when they collided with the front of the Alvia train, as confirmed by the Andalusian Regional Government.
The service adds that 39 people remain hospitalized in various Andalusian hospitals : 35 adults and four children . Of these, 13 patients are in intensive care, all adults, some in serious condition, although their lives are not currently in danger. As confirmed by the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, this Monday, the causes of the disaster are being investigated . King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia will travel to Córdoba this Tuesday to thank the town of Ademuz for its solidarity and the work carried out since Sunday.
