Catalonia began another day marked by chaos on the Rodalies commuter rail service this Monday. The network suffered further disruptions for the sixth consecutive day due to an incident at the Adif control center, forcing the suspension of service early in the morning.
Although it was planned to partially restore service from early morning, trains were stopped twice before 8:00 a.m. Rodalies was finally able to resume service at that time, according to Adif, after the detected problem was partially resolved.
INTERMITTENT RECOVERY
Renfe has informed passengers that the problem originated in the Adif control center, located at Estació de França. The operator indicated that service began to gradually resume from 7:10 a.m., but just ten minutes later it was interrupted again due to the same fault.
Renfe’s spokesperson in Catalonia, Antonio Carmona, explained that the exact cause is still “to be determined” and acknowledged that the situation has forced them to make safety decisions due to the lack of control over rail traffic.
A COMMUNICATIONS FAILURE
From Adif, the director of the presidency, communication and institutional relations office, Salvador Almenar, has assured that “no hypothesis” about the origin of the computer problem is ruled out.
As detailed, the incident occurred due to a failure in the communication system of the control center of the Estació de França, which forced trains to stop at the stations to avoid risks while the causes were investigated.
Furthermore, he has ruled out that this episode is related to the incidents of last week, which were attributed to damage to the infrastructure after the storm.
