Research into a cure for pancreatic cancer will receive new financial backing from the cultural sector. Actor and producer Antonio Banderas has announced his support for scientist Mariano Barbacid and his team in developing a therapy that aims to combat one of the most aggressive diseases completely and permanently.
The support will be channeled through the Lágrimas y Favores Foundation, which Banderas himself chairs. The aim is to help the scientific team advance into a new phase of research that requires funding to continue with the trials.
In his Instagram post , the performer reflects on the current moment and writes: “While the world is in turmoil, filled with violence, confusion, disenchantment and stupidity, one man, Mariano Barbacid, and his team, working with dedication, faith, patience, perseverance and wisdom, are getting closer to defeating one of the deadliest diseases .”
Mariano Barbacid is head of the Experimental Oncology Group at the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO) . At the end of January, his team announced that their studies had yielded positive results in experimental models, opening a new chapter in the research of a therapy that aims to cure pancreatic cancer “completely and permanently.”
