February was a great month for tourism in Aragon. According to the National Institute of Statistics,
more than 200,000 people traveled to the region, accounting for over 400,000 overnight stays. This means that tourists spent an average of 2.1 days in Aragonese hotels. While most tourists came from Spain, a significant 16% were from abroad.
This tourism is also reflected in hotel occupancy, which stands at 44.74%, rising even further to 53.94% on weekends. Hotels have employed 3,782 people. Furthermore, as in January, Aragon is the region with the largest increase in the Hotel Price Index: it has risen by 7.2% since February 2015.
ZARAGOZA: A DESTINATION FOR PEOPLE FROM MADRID AND CATALONIA
Comparing the three provinces reveals several differences, especially regarding the origin of tourists. 103,759 people visited Zaragoza, staying an average of 1.78 days. 23% of these visitors resided abroad, significantly higher than the average for the autonomous community.
Despite its international appeal, domestic tourism remains the dominant sector in the province, with
visitors from Catalonia (19.51%) and Madrid (18.77%) playing a particularly prominent role , highlighting the close ties with Spain’s two largest cities. The presence of tourists from Aragon (13.13%) is also noteworthy. Following these regions are the Valencian Community (7.82%), Andalusia (7.08%), and Castile and León (6.58%).
SNOW TOURISM IN HUESCA
The province of Huesca has enjoyed a busy February thanks to its snow and ski slopes. As a result, it welcomed 76,154 visitors, with an average stay of 2.59 nights. Almost a third of domestic tourism came from Madrid, followed by Aragon (18.64%). Visitors from Catalonia (13.01%), the Basque Country (9.39%), and Valencia (6.69%) also chose to visit the Alto Aragón region.
The Spanish National Statistics Institute (INE) has highlighted Benasque as a tourist destination. This town in the province of Huesca has received 11,556 visitors, the vast majority from Spain, who stayed an average of 3.26 nights. This high occupancy rate is reflected in the hotel occupancy rate of 77.68%, which increases to 83.34% on weekends.
Finally, 29,296 travelers visited the province of Teruel in February. Tourism from the Valencian Community stands out, accounting for 35.22%, given its proximity and strong ties. Teruel also receives, to a lesser extent, travelers from Aragon (19.32%), Catalonia (11.30%), and Madrid (10.17%).
