The indefinite strike by air traffic controllers begins this Friday at several Spanish airports, including
Huesca -Pirineos, although in practice its impact in
Aragon will have no consequences for passengers, since this infrastructure has been
without regular commercial flights for about a decade , so the direct impact on passengers is practically nonexistent.
The strike is included in the official list of affected airports, along with others such as Seville, Lanzarote, and Vigo. However, in Aragon, it does not affect other airports with regular traffic, such as Zaragoza Airport , nor other airports with regular connections in the region. In this context, the Consumers and Users Organization (OCU) reminds travelers of their rights in case of cancellations or delays.
OCU insists that passengers can get a refund and claim financial compensation, provided they request it in writing from the airline. Furthermore, the refund must be issued within a maximum of seven days.
COMPENSATION BASED ON DISTANCE
Compensation can reach up to €600 per passenger, depending on the flight distance and whether an alternative is offered. For journeys up to 1,500 kilometers, the compensation is €250, or €125 if the alternative transport is delayed by no more than two hours.
For flights between 1,500 and 3,500 kilometers—or within the European Union for flights over 1,500 kilometers —the compensation amounts to 400 euros, which is reduced to 200 euros if the delay does not exceed three hours. For flights over 3,500 kilometers departing from outside the EU, the compensation can reach 600 euros, or 300 euros if the delay is less than four hours.
In addition, the passenger has the right to claim compensation for any damages that can be proven, such as the loss of another connecting flight or a hotel night at the destination.
