Chus Mateo praises Aday Mara: “He has sacrificed a lot and promises to be someone very important”

Aday Mara is having an incredibly intense year for a player as young as the Zaragoza native, and his next goal is to debut with the Spanish national team. In fact , head coach Chus Mateo praised the Zaragoza center during a press conference. 

” Aday has followed a path typical of someone who promises to be important . But he has had to work very hard and make many sacrifices, after his first two years in college barely playing, and he has culminated in becoming an NCAA champion. I think he is on a very good path, but we have to be patient with him,” the coach explained regarding Aday’s situation. 

Furthermore, he confirmed that he will get playing time against Portugal, something that was unofficial but not yet confirmed: ” He’s going to make his debut in front of his home fans, which is the best possible debut .” He also used these words as an incentive for Zaragoza fans to come to the Príncipe Felipe stadium. 

The Zaragoza pavilion also brings back memories for Chus Mateo, as his first experience as head coach was at CAI Zaragoza in 2006. “It’s been a while since then, and I remember that period fondly, both the club and the fans,” he recalled. 

FEB’S AFFECTION FOR ZARAGOZA

The president of the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB), Elisa Aguilar, along with the women’s national team coach, Miguel Méndez , also had kind words for the Aragonese capital in their statements. ” Zaragoza is a basketball city , and its fans never stop cheering,” commented Méndez. 

Aguilar has asked the fans to “come en masse” to the Príncipe Felipe stadium to cheer on both teams due to the importance of the matches for the national teams.
