Shenghe’s plant in Pedrola positions Aragon as a “pioneering enclave in the battery sector”

The Minister of Economy for the Government of Aragon , Eva Valle , has given a very positive assessment of the arrival of the solvent recycling plant for batteries that the Chinese company Shenghe will build in Pedrola. In her opinion, this reinforces Aragon’s leading role in the automotive industry.

This plant would complement the activity of the Figueruelas battery gigafactory , although it will receive waste from other factories, as Eva Valle has clarified, who highlighted that this investment makes the autonomous community a “pioneering enclave in clean technologies linked precisely to the battery sector” reducing its environmental impact.

He also explained that the arrival of this service consolidates the Aragonese automotive sector and “ensures its survival in the medium term” in a context of “a radical transformation and a total paradigm shift worldwide” with the commitment to electric vehicles.

100 JOBS IN PEDROLA

This investment, Shenghe’s first in Europe, will create up to 100 jobs in the commissioning of a circular economy plant that will recycle the solvent N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP), essential in the manufacture of batteries.

As the regional minister explained, “this plant recovers the solvent residue from batteries , purifies it on-site, and reintroduces it into the production process of any battery factory, not just the one it receives.” When it becomes operational in 2028—construction of the complex will begin in the coming months—it will process up to 100,000 tons of this residue annually.
