The Aragonese presidentJorge Azcón, met this Tuesday in Brussels with Hungarian Kata Tüttő, who has been president of the European Committee of the Regions since February of this year, and to whom he has outlined the priority issues for the Community. “In Aragon, we need to talk about the cohesion funds that are coming to our autonomous community, we need to talk about transport policies, the problems of depopulation, and now, we also want to talk about technology, data centers, and the investments that may come. And all of this is what I have been talking about with the President of the Committee of the Regions,” the head of the Executive summarized.

In Aragon, Azcón reasoned, “we are especially sensitive to the problems of depopulation“, and “they are more severe than what may occur in other parts of Spain and the European Union.” “That’s why we are interested in ensuring that, in European Union policies, those areas with depopulation problems have differentiated investment criteria. And not just in Europe, but also in national budgets,” he said.

“This is the most important debate we have in Aragon: that depopulation, dispersion, the problems and topographic characteristics of our autonomous community be taken into account in the budget. This is something that must happen in Spain’s budget, in the financing system of the autonomous communities, but also in the budgets of the European Union,” he stressed.

The Committee of the Regions, the president stated in response to questions from the media, “has many objectives, but the fundamental one is for the European Commission and the European Council to take into account the needs of the different regions in Europe.” “If we don’t shed light on them, if we don’t focus on these needs, they won’t be on the agenda and they won’t exist. Therefore, having direct dialogue with the president of the Committee and having the issues that interest us Aragonese on the agenda is extraordinarily important,” he added.

INVITATION TO THE WAVE

Azcón has invited the president of the Committee of the Regions to attend the next edition of The Wave in Zaragoza, “to come to the Technology Congress held in our autonomous community and which is already one of the most important in Spain.” “What is happening from a technological perspective in Aragon is so distinctive that even the president of a European institution as important as the Committee of the Regions has expressed interest in being able to attend The Wave in one of the next editions to see firsthand what is happening in Aragon with the billions of euros of investment in technological infrastructure that are coming,” he said.
