The President of the Government of Aragon, Jorge Azcón , continues his visit to the plenary session of the
Committee of the Regions in Brussels . This Thursday, the Aragonese leader called for a “fair and less paperwork-intensive Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) so that farmers “can earn a living.”
This is how the leader of the DGA (General Directorate of Agriculture) spoke during the debate on the report “Strengthening the Position of Farmers in the Agri-Food Supply Chain.” During his speech, he highlighted the importance of the agricultural sector in Aragon, noting that 15% of the country’s wealth revolves around agriculture. ” 55,000 people work in this area of the economy . It is essential in 23 of the 33 regions of Aragon,” Azcón asserted.
Along these lines, the Aragonese president added that in Aragon, there is a keen awareness of the importance of agriculture as a backbone for “preserving the rural environment” and combating depopulation, just as “we are aware” of its importance in the food chain.
” Farmers face incredible challenges and need government support. One of those challenges is ensuring fair prices. They shouldn’t have to deal with unfair practices or buying at a loss. Another challenge is ending
excessive bureaucracy, which must end. The CAP must be fair and involve less paperwork so that farmers can earn a living,” Jorge Azcón concluded.
