The legendary Police drummer Stewart Copeland will be in Huesca on June 7th to attend the Spanish premiere of “Copeland,” a documentary that reviews his professional and personal career over five decades in music. The screening will take place at 10:00 PM at the Olimpia Theater, as part of the 53rd Huesca International Film Festival , which runs from June 6th to 14th.

Directed by Zaragoza-born filmmaker Pablo Aragüés, the feature film offers an intimate look at the life of one of the most influential drummers in the history of rock. A founding member of The Police, winner of five Grammy Awards, and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Copeland has developed an extensive career that transcends the stage, with compositions for film, opera, and ballet.

Before the premiere, the artist will participate in the now traditional “Vermú con” format, a meeting open to the public that will take place at 1:00 p.m. in the Blue Room of the Casino de Huesca. Attendees will be able to chat with him about his beginnings, his collaborations, and his vision of musical creation.

A FIRST-PERSON DOCUMENTARY

“Copeland” is narrated by the musician himself and traces his career from his childhood in Virginia, Beirut, and London to his international breakthrough with The Police. The documentary begins with a concert in Italy and is constructed as an artistic reflection.

In addition to his time with The Police, Copeland has composed soundtracks for films such as The Rules of the Street, Wall Street and Talking to Death, and has created symphonic works and operas such as Holy Blood and Crescent Moon. He remains active with new projects such as his recently released album Wild Concerto and the Have I Said Too Much? Tour 2025, which will tour the UK this autumn.

A PRODUCTION WITH AN ARAGONESE BRAND

The film is produced by Pablo Aragüés and Marta Cabrera, alongside executive producers Tarquin Gotch, Shawn Rhodes, and John Alexander. Aragüés, who has a distinguished career in short films, feature films, and music videos, has worked with artists such as Saxon, Neuman, and Violadores del Verso. His next feature film, Ancestral, won an award at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.

The director of the Huesca Film Festival, Estela Rasal, described Copeland’s presence as “a privilege.” The festival has the support of the Ministry of Culture, the Government of Aragon, the Provincial Council of Huesca, the City Council of Huesca, Renfe, the La Caixa Foundation, and Acción Cultural Española (AC/E), among other sponsors.

The premiere of “Copeland” will be one of the highlights of the festival, which continues to establish itself as one of the major film events in Spain.
