The MotorLand Aragón Grand Prix is a special and exciting circuit for many. For some, like Marc Márquez, it’s even his favorite on the calendar. However, this morning in Zaragoza, where Pedro Acosta and his departure from the “mystery box” took center stage , there was also time to explain the current status of negotiations for the Teruel circuit’s continued presence on the calendar.
This weekend, MotorLand Aragón once again establishes itself as the epicenter of global motorcycling with a Grand Prix that attracts tens of thousands of people, turning Bajo Aragón into an international tourist destination throughout the weekend. Throughout this week, trucks, motorhomes, and hospitality vehicles have been filling the paddock of the Bajo Aragón circuit, which hosts the eighth round of the MotoGP World Championship from June 6 to 8.
In this regard, more than 100,000 fans will fill the stands and arenas over a weekend, with the circuit opening its doors at 8:00 a.m. on Friday. Zaragoza’s Plaza del Pilar was the chosen setting to present the GoPro Aragon Grand Prix with a spectacular event that began with the opening of a surprise box on the balcony of San Lázaro, from which a MotoGP bike ridden by Pedro Acosta emerged, amid special effects, smoke, and confetti, which was then carried to the square.
The presentation was attended by the Regional Minister for the Environment and Tourism and President of MotorLand Aragón, Manuel Blasco; the Mayor of Zaragoza, Natalia Chueca; the Mayor of Alcañiz, Miguel Ángel Estévan; the Managing Director of MotorLand Aragón, Jorge Panadés; and the CEO of Dorna, Carmelo Ezpeleta, accompanied by Carlos Ezpeleta, MotoGP Sports Director.
A LARGE DEMAND TO GET ON THE MOTO GP CALENDAR
The sporting director of the competition has been questioned about the continuation of the Alcañiz Grand Prix beyond 2026. However, the renewal remains complex. “We are still in negotiations with the Government of Aragon due to the demand from many other countries that want to be included in the calendar, much to our regret given the four races in Spain. We are looking at all possibilities to ensure the Aragon GP continues.”
At the same time, Ezpeleta assured that “we are working to maximize these events. We’ll see what opportunities there are after 2026 to continue here.”

For his part, the councilor advocated for the presentation to take place in the Aragonese capital. “It’s very important to present this Grand Prix in Zaragoza because MotorLand is the Aragon circuit. It’s a world-class event that only 22 cities in the world offer, so I encourage all Aragonese to attend the championship.”
Pedro Acosta and the struggle of the Marquez brothers
In terms of sporting events, and specifically in the premier class of motorcycling, two protagonists emerged this weekend, and another today. Regarding the “mystery box,” Pedro Acosta made a notable appearance from the Balcón de San Lázaro, crossing the Puente de Piedra bridge to complete his slow journey in the Plaza del Pilar, where he met with the event participants.
For the Murcian, racing in Spain is “super nice,” but Aragón in particular takes on even more significance because “there are few like this circuit,” he notes. Above all, he remembers this track for his crash in Moto3 the year he won the world championship and for his victory the following year in Moto2.

Now, with KTM in the premier class, things aren’t going well for him, but he says he’s “happy, despite not having the start he dreamed of,” denying the rumors surrounding his departure to Valentino Rossi’s team.
On the other hand, MotorLand arrives in an ideal setting for the world championship. Marc and Álex Márquez are at the top of the standings, something unprecedented in elite motorcycling. The Ducati rider sits at the top, with 196 points, while Álex remains steady, trailing his younger brother by 24 points. The championship race is wide open, and the Aragón GP could be decisive in the final outcome.
