The Ibercaja Foundation has reinforced its commitment to sustainability on the occasion of World Environment Day. The organization has completed a new ecological restoration project in Mallén, Zaragoza, as part of the Ibercaja Foundation Forest project, which already includes nearly 75,000 plants throughout the region.

The project has resulted in the regeneration of more than 70 hectares of degraded land, with the planting of 53,594 trees of 11 different species spread across six locations. Along with Mallén, initiatives have been promoted in municipalities such as Albentosa ( Teruel ), Tauste ( Zaragoza ), and Alcalá de Henares ( Madrid ), always with the involvement of Ibercaja Group employees, family members, and neighbors through corporate volunteering.

ACTIVITIES IN SCHOOLS AND NEW INITIATIVES

In the educational field, the Ibercaja Foundation has organized the R7 for the Planet school competition for the fourth consecutive year, with the participation of 121 schools from across Spain. The competition seeks to promote good environmental practices in primary, secondary, high school, and vocational training classrooms.

The El Bosque del Cole program has also been reinstated, distributing seeds to Aragonese schools so students can participate in reforestation and environmental awareness efforts.

OFFSET EMISSIONS AND CARBON SINKS

The foundation also announced that it has met its commitment to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030, a goal already achieved in 2023. According to its data, it currently offsets 100% of its direct emissions thanks to the rights generated by its own reforestation project, making it a carbon-neutral entity.

In total, the organization has promoted three certified carbon sinks and renaturalized 52.71 hectares through sustained actions.

SUPPORT FOR SCIENTIFIC PROJECTS IN ARAGON

During 2025 , the Ibercaja Foundation has also collaborated with the University of Zaragoza and the Pyrenean Institute of Ecology (CSIC) in monitoring the glaciers of the Aragonese Pyrenees, with the aim of analyzing the evolution of their volume in the face of climate change.

In addition, together with AISECO, it has promoted a steppe habitat conservation program in the Gallocanta Lagoon, focused on correcting environmental impacts, restoring degraded areas, and preserving the natural ecosystems of this protected area.

These actions are part of the Ibercaja Foundation’s environmental strategy, which seeks to integrate environmental commitment into all areas.
