Logistics and healthcare will be the sectors that will generate the highest employment in Aragon in 2024, according to Randstad data. In the case of the Spanish labor market as a whole, the activities that will generate greater employment this year will be industry, tourism, agri-food and logistics , according to the same data obtained from a survey carried out by the talent consultancy among more than 250 offices spread throughout Spain.

The industry in different specialties, tourism and hospitality, logistics and transport and the agri-food sector are the economic activities that are currently creating the greatest employment and that have better prospects for the entire year in Spain, according to the data collected. by Randstad. “The labor market maintains its strength and, within it, these sectors are the ones that currently show a better situation ,” says Andrés Menéndez, general director of Temporary Work and Inhouse at Randstad.

The Spanish economy grew by 2.5% last year, according to INE data, with household consumption as the main driver . This results in the labor dynamism shown by sectors such as tourism and hospitality or logistics, which are benefiting from the rise of electronic commerce.

RISE OF TOURISM AND INDUSTRY

According to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), the hospitality industry has become one of the main job-generating sectors in recent quarters. At the end of last year, the activity had 1.68 million workers throughout Spain, 80,600 more than a year before.

To the traditional autonomous communities where tourism is one of the main job generators, such as the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands or Andalusia , others have been added in which this activity has become strong in recent years, such as Madrid, Castilla y León or La Rioja with wine tourism. The profiles demanded by tourism and hospitality are, mainly, waiters, cooks, waiters and leisure promoters .

The industry has also been one of the sectors that has created jobs in the last year. According to data from the INE at the end of 2023, the activity employed 2.55 million workers, 9,000 more than a year before. Catalonia, Madrid and other communities in northern Spain , such as the Basque Country, Navarra, Asturias or Cantabria, where the industry has traditionally played an important role, are the areas where this activity is having a greater impact on employment .

Within the industry, the automotive sector stands out as an important branch in generating employment , thanks to the latest investments to renew plants in the transition to electric cars. The railway and naval industries also stand out in the communities of northern Spain. In addition to engineers , these industries need production operators and specialized workers, such as folders, welders or punchers , among others.

STRENGTH OF THE AGRI-FOOD SECTOR AND LOGISTICS

The agri-food sector , for its part, has good prospects in numerous autonomous communities, although it shows significant dynamism in the Valencian Community, Murcia, Andalusia and Extremadura . In addition to operators who carry out their activity in production plants, the sector also needs professionals with digital and engineering skills that facilitate the automation of industrial processes, as well as employees specialized in sales and marketing.

Finally, logistics maintains its strength due to changes in consumer habits and the rise of electronic commerce. The main demands of logistics companies are packers, forklift drivers, warehouse workers and transporters , as well as professionals dedicated to customer service . The autonomous communities where logistics maintains its strength are Aragón, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, Catalonia, Murcia and Cantabria .

“The labor market generally shows a healthy evolution, with multiple sectors generating employment , although the most important thing is that in each of the autonomous communities the sectors that traditionally stand out are performing well and show good expectations,” concludes Andrés Menéndez. , Managing Director of Temporary and Inhouse Work at Randstad.
