Pianists from all over the world gather in Teruel for the Antón García Abril International Competition

Teruel hosts the tenth edition of the International competition with pianists from Australia, Mexico and China

During this weekend , coinciding with the anniversary of the composer from Teruel , the Antón García Abril International Piano Competition is being held , a prestigious competition that celebrates its tenth edition and whose purpose is to disseminate the piano work of the world-known maestro from Teruel. The final phase of the competition will take place from May 17 to 19 at the San Julián Cultural Center in Teruel , which will bring pianists from every corner of the globe.

The Teruel City Council, the Government of Aragon, the Ibercaja Foundation and the Antón García Abril Foundation have once again sponsored the celebration of this tenth edition. A highly prestigious contest in Teruel in which each year participants come from various parts of Spain and countries such as Australia, Mexico, China or Azerbaijan , among others.

The contest will award three prizes that will be designated by a jury of recognized international prestige. The first prize “Ciudad de Teruel” is endowed with 10,000 euros ; the second prize with 6,000 euros, and the third prize with 3,000 euros .

The final phase will take place from May 17 to 19, 2024 at the San Julián Cultural Center in Teruel . The selected finalists will perform live a repertoire with several works by the composer. After the live performances , the jury will deliberate and announce the name of the contest winners.

ANTON GARCÍA ABRIL, A PIANO LEGEND FROM TUROLE

Antón García Abril (1933-2021) was one of the most important composers of the 20th century and the first decades of the 21st century in Spain . His long professional career encompasses extensive composition that includes works for orchestra, cantatas, concertos, chamber music , outstanding song cycles and more than two hundred soundtracks for film and television.

In this year 2024 , coinciding with the birthday of the composer from Teruel, “Cantos de Ordesa” , a concert for viola and orchestra, will be premiered in Costa Rica, with Isabel Villanueva as soloist with the Heredia Symphony Orchestra , under the direction of Eddie Mora.
