Rita Payés, Andrés Suárez, Marwan and Cristina Rosenvinge will fill the lands of Moncayo with their music in a new edition of the well-known Verano Veruela Festival organized by the Zaragoza Provincial Council. During the four Saturdays in August , the church of the Monastery of Veruela will be flooded with music and atmosphere with the four concerts that make up this year’s poster.
After thirty years, the event recovers its essence and returns to its roots with a program characterized by leaving the line of commercial music , seeking to publicize artists who are usually in the background in the musical panorama. Thus, the purpose of the festival is to find quality and give an opportunity to diversity and artistic originality.
The festival will start on August 3 with jazz and boss anova by Rita Payés. It will continue on August 10 with the author and social song by Marwan and on August 17 with the composer Andrés Suárez. The festival will close on August 24 with Christina Rosenvinge, undisputed muse for several generations of music fans. All concerts will take place in the church of the Veruela monastery at 7:30 p.m.
Making independent artists known and expanding culture throughout Aragon is not the only objective of this Festival, the deputy delegate of the Veruela monastery of the Zaragoza Provincial Council , Eduardo Arilla, has highlighted the “multiplier effect” that the festival has for the Moncayo area and Campo de Borja area. “ It attracts more than 2,000 people every year , bringing culture closer to rural areas through one of the most important events in the province,” said Arilla, who adds that the number of visitors and tourists to the areas increases.
A STELE OF GREAT ARTISTS
Various artists from the national, international and Aragonese scene have performed on the stage of the church of the Monastery of Veruela . Some established ones who say goodbye to the stages at Moncayo, other emerging ones who have managed to make their music known and young people who are looking for an opportunity in the musical world.
This is how the deputy delegate of Culture of the Zaragoza Provincial Council , Charo Lázaro, wanted to remember it, who also stressed that “the festival emerged three decades ago and since then it has been adapting to the changes and the different styles of music, always offering a program special and different that has positioned it as one of the differentiating festivals of the province and Aragon.”
When Rosalía was not yet known worldwide for her great hits “Bizcochito”, “Despechá” or “Malamente” she went on stage at the Festival to present her “avant-garde flamenco” that shortly after launched her to fame. The artist is just one name in the long list of artists who have participated in the festival, such as Valeria Castro, José Mercé, Kiko Veneno, Jorge Drexler, Carmen París and Santiago Auserón.
