Iberdrola invests 290 million this year to promote digitalization in all its activities

Experts and executives from companies such as Amazon or Microsoft have participated in the conferences held this Thursday by Iberdrola

Iberdrola held the tenth edition of its Digital Summit at the company’s campus in San Agustín del Guadalix, in Madrid. During the day, the company explained that  this year it will invest 290 million euros in digitalization initiatives aligned with its strategic plan: accelerate renewable energy projects and development of smart networks, improve the excellence of operations and the experience of its customers, always with the highest cybersecurity standards. 

During the inauguration, Ignacio Galán , president of the company, highlighted that “in the same way that we were pioneers decades ago in the commitment to renewable energies , we have also been pioneers in the digitalization of electrical networks and now we are being pioneers in the use of artificial intelligence and big data . And now that we are immersed in an unstoppable process of electrification around the world, we have to invest even more in digital infrastructure and support innovation and the adoption of these new technologies to cover more and more. energy uses of millions of consumers, always with the highest cybersecurity standards.”

The event, held under the motto Leading in digital and followed by more than 2,000 Group employees, has addressed the latest trends in digitalization and its close interrelation with the process of electrification of the energy matrix through renewable energies, smart networks and energy storage.

CYBERSECURITY AND AI, STAR TOPICS

During the day, the main topics addressed were cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence and the journey to the Cloud, also highlighting the human side of digitalization. 

The company has had the participation of a large group of experts from leading international companies. Professionals from Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft, BBVA, Ferrovial, Meliá Hotels, the social innovation agency Innuba and the consulting firm Ideami attended, as well as Carme Artigas, co-president of the United Nations Advisory Council for Artificial Intelligence. 

Suzana Curic, AWS country lead in Iberia, has highlighted the potential of artificial intelligence and generative AI in companies. “Right now 36% of companies in Spain are already using this type of technology, and if an adoption rate of 30% is maintained each year – like the one that occurred last year – it could unlock an additional injection of more of 55,000 million euros in the Spanish economy by 2030”, he assured.  

For her part, from Microsoft, Carolina Castillo , Director of Marketing and Operations, explained how they are driving economic growth and innovation with their investments in infrastructure and data centers. “Our vision is to promote digital transformation and sustainability, creating opportunities and employment in the country. Innovation in generative AI is another pillar of our commitment, integrating it into all our products to offer safe and reliable solutions.”
