The KDK Automotive factory in the Aragonese town of Borja inaugurated its new facilities and services this Thursday in the presence of the President of Aragon, Jorge Azcón. With this expansion, which was already announced in 2023 , around 150 new jobs will be created until the end of 2027 , which will be added to the current 424 jobs . “It is a new goal for KDK, a challenge and I am sure that the good news will not end here,” said Azcón.
The head of the regional government was able to visit, with the help of the plant managers, the 6,500 square metres that make up the new KDK facilities in Borja, which are located on a 10,000 square metre plot adjacent to the old facilities. These also house 40 robotic injection machines , each with an investment of 500,000 euros, which makes this project a total investment of more than 30 million euros .ADVERTISING
However, the head of the regional executive wanted to emphasize that this project is also “the company’s definitive commitment to developing engineering in Zaragoza , since 13 engineers will be transferred from Germany to the offices in our capital to work on sustainability projects.”
INCREASE IN PARTS MANUFACTURING
The president also stressed that these new facilities will also enable us to cope with the fact that “the manufacture of new parts for electric vehicles will require the use of more than 5,500 tonnes of different types of plastic, compared to the current consumption of 2,243 tonnes”, so, among other measures, “this new factory will increase the use of ECO materials from the current 0% to 70% in 2030”.
Regarding the use of renewable energy in the facilities, since January 2023 the factory has a 650 kWh photovoltaic plant , “which accounts for 16% of the electricity consumed by the activity ,” explained President Azcón. “The Government of Aragon and KDK Automotive are completely aligned in their intentions and work, they were already in March 2023 when the then Governing Council approved the DIGA for this project and, I am sure, this will continue to be the case in the future,” stressed the head of the Aragonese Executive.
INDUSTRY IN ARAGON
Industry is the second largest contributor to the GDP of the autonomous region of Aragon, with a weight of 20% , five tenths more than the Spanish industry. Within this, the first branch of the manufacturing sector is the one dedicated to the automotive sector , which reaches 17% of the Gross Added Value of the autonomous region’s industry and 4.35% of the Gross Added Value of the community.
Furthermore, the automotive sector currently generates 17,215 jobs in Aragon, that is, 17% of total employment in the manufacturing sector and 2.7% of total employment in Aragon. For this reason, the Government of Aragon is working to increase the number of highly specialised personnel and the professional profiles required by these companies, so that, for example, the offer of university places in Mathematics and Engineering courses has been expanded.
