XPO, a leading provider of innovative and sustainable end-to-end logistics solutions across Europe, opened its new logistics centre in Zaragoza on Monday, specifically in Plaza, which is already close to 100% occupied. With more than 9,000 square metres, this facility has 52 loading and unloading docks, six of which are dedicated to last mile activity, with which the centre increases the group’s operational surface area in Aragon to 28,600 square metres, with the capacity to store around 2,500 pallets and move more than 1,500 pallets daily.

XPO Logistics offers comprehensive logistics, transport and distribution solutions both nationally and internationally. The new facility, which will create 50 direct jobs, specialises in cross-docking services (exchanging goods from one vehicle to another without going through a warehouse to speed up last-mile transport). It is spread over 9,300 square metres of storage space on a 21,700 square metre plot, developed by Montepino through the Aragonese company Valfondo, the main logistics asset manager on the Iberian Peninsula.

At this new centre in Zaragoza, 65% of the surface area is used for pallet services and last mile deliveries, while the remaining 35% is used for logistics operations such as unloading containers and trailers, storage, picking and order preparation, dispatch, handling, and other value-added services. Full load and national and international groupage transport services are managed from its offices for clients in the region.

“We are delighted to expand our presence in Aragon, one of the most dynamic regions in terms of business development in Spain. This innovative centre not only strengthens our ability to offer the company’s logistics solutions, but also opens up new business opportunities and possibilities for diversification, contributing to the continued growth of XPO Logistics in the region. Over the past four years, our turnover in Aragon has increased by 164% to reach €50 million in 2023,” said Massimo Marsili, General Manager for Southern Europe and Morocco at XPO Logistics.

PLAZA, THE LOGISTICS JEWEL IN ARAGON THAT IS CLOSE TO 100% OCCUPANCY

The opening event was attended by the Minister of Development, Housing, Logistics and Territorial Cohesion of the Government of Aragon, Octavio López , and the General Director of Strategic Planning and Logistics, Raquel Ramos, who stressed the importance of this investment for the economic development of the region.

The minister has underlined the role of Plaza as “the jewel of logistics in Aragon” and one of the “most important locations in Spain and Southern Europe”, ensuring that with the implementation of this new centre “it is almost 100% occupied”. “The arrival of XPO Logistics will contribute to logistics in our region continuing to gain ground and improving its position on the international scene”, he stressed.

In addition, López has highlighted that the logistics complex has planned “ two new highly relevant projects that will allow it to continue setting the pace in the coming decades: its expansion and the arrival of the new northern access , an action that is already designed and will be presented after the summer so that the new access becomes a reality in 2027”.

A CENTER THAT RUNS ON RENEWABLE ENERGY

XPO Logistics reaffirms its commitment to sustainability and innovation at its new LEED Gold-certified Zaragoza logistics center. In line with the company’s carbon footprint reduction strategy, the new center runs on 100% renewable energy and is equipped with solar panels, energy consumption monitoring systems, and natural light sensors. In addition, XPO Logistics integrates artificial intelligence into its operations with innovative tools such as XPO Connect and fleet optimizers, improving and optimizing routes to increase the efficiency of its services.

With this new opening, XPO Logistics strengthens its commitment to Aragon, adding 73 centers in the Iberian Peninsula , with a total surface area of 229,000 square meters and 1,100 loading and unloading docks. The company remains dedicated to expanding its network, generating value and employment in the region, and advancing its mission of offering cutting-edge logistics solutions.
