Road collapses, villages without electricity or bridges destroyed: this is how the DANA has affected Bielsa

Bielsa has been one of the municipalities of Huesca most affected by the strong storms during Saturday morning in the Pyrenees

An initial assessment of the damage caused by the strong storms that hit much of the Aragonese
Pyrenees on Friday and Saturday, after the DANA , has left a somewhat bleak picture in Bielsa, with broken roads, inaccessible tunnels and severely damaged infrastructure. The village of Parzán has been without power for several hours and the Urdiceto and Aciron bridges are now history after being swept away by the Barrosa River.

One of the images of the rainy day in northern Aragon was the collapse of a section of the A-138 road, as a result of the rising rivers, which has had to close it in the direction of the village of Parzán. For the same reason, the road to Chisagües has also had to be closed.

As already announced this morning, the Bielsa tunnel that connects with France has had to be closed due to the overflow that has taken two of the lanes. Municipal sources in Bielsa have stated that the tunnel workers and several Civil Guards have had to walk down.

THE VILLAGE OF PARZÁN, WITHOUT LIGHT, AND THE PINETA SHELTER, FLOODED

The village of Parzán, in the municipality of Bielsa , was left without electricity at 8:00 am after a pylon fell. The problem was solved thanks to power generators that went up to the town, and electricity was restored at around 3:30 pm. The bridges of Urdiceto and Acirón were swept away by the strong current of the Barrosa river, and on top of that, part of the wall of the Bielsa swimming pools fell, causing pieces of fields and roads to be swept away.

The storm has caused the Pineta Valley to be flooded by the dam, flooding the refuge and causing significant material damage, such as loss of food and electrical appliances. Pineta confirms that the water has reached knees. Also, a pylon responsible for providing light to the campsite has moved and is visibly twisted and at risk of falling.

From Bielsa, one of the municipalities most affected by the DANA in the Sobrarbe region, they believe that this first assessment of the material damage is high, although fortunately there are no human losses to regret. When a reasonable period of time has passed and the totality of the damage can be assessed, the corresponding compensation and replacement of the same will be requested.
