Zaragoza will once again be participating in the European Mobility Week, which will be held from 16 to 22 September under the motto “Combine and Move!”. With the aim of raising awareness about the benefits for both public health and the environment associated with the use of more sustainable modes of transport, in particular public transport , cycling and walking, a comprehensive programme has been designed to be deployed in different parts of the city.

The Ruta Z with raffles for users who manage to walk more than 10 kilometres, the sustainable bicycle ride that will cover a traffic-free Paseo Independencia or dynamic road circuits in the Plaza del Pilar, both for children and adults, are just some of the highlights. The Minister of Mobility, Tatiana Gaudes, has insisted on the importance of this mobility week to achieve “a shared and sustainable public space”.

“We have tried to ensure that the scheduled activities include references to the different modes of urban transport, from walking and enjoying the city to using the latest technologies, including bicycles, VMP and, of course, public transport. All of this in a safe manner,” Gaudes stressed.

ROUTE Z: WALKING AROUND ZARAGOZA HAS A PRIZE

As is now traditional, the European Mobility Week will kick off with the Ruta Z Challenge. In this edition, participants will have to download the application of the same name to their mobile phones, which allows them to measure the kilometres walked and press the “Mobility Week Challenge” button. Various prizes will be drawn among all those who exceed the figure of 10 kilometres in this week and in this challenge.

This activity, promoted in collaboration with Zaragoza Deporte and with technical support from the University of Zaragoza, has the incentive of attractive prizes provided by sponsors such as Podoactiva (9 footprint studies); El Corte Inglés (a bicycle and 9 vouchers redeemable for the same number of pairs of sports shoes) or Mercury (4 packs of sportswear, two for men and two for women, with a sweatshirt, tracksuit, polo shirt and Bermuda shorts).

In addition, the Zaragoza Municipal Sports Society will donate an amount for each kilometer traveled, which will be donated to the next plantings of El Bosque de los Zaragozanos.

ELECTRIC VEHICLE TECHNOLOGY AND SHOW

On Monday morning, the 16th, those who come to the Plaza del Pilar will be able to learn about some of the latest advances in inductive charging for electric vehicles. The Circe Foundation will present the results of the European Incit-EV project, which has achieved important innovations in the field of inductive (contactless) charging, both static and dynamic, which would allow electric vehicles to be charged while they are driving on a street or road.

That same day, the Provincial Taxi Association and the Zaragoza Taxi Cooperative have organised an open day at their facilities on the extension of Gómez Laguna, where a sample of electric vehicles will be on display, which, although it is primarily intended for the taxi sector, is open to the rest of the public.

ROAD SAFETY ON ELECTRIC SCOOTERS FOR STUDENTS

Road safety will be one of the main topics of interest and on 17 and 18 September there will be morning sessions at Mobility City, aimed primarily at high school students (ESO and Bachillerato). These sessions will provide basic safety advice for driving in urban areas and allow them to practice safe driving in VMPs outdoors.

There will also be similar activities in the Plaza del Pilar, in this case on the weekend of 21 and 22 September. Thus, on Saturday, from 12:00 to 14:00 and from 16:00 to 22:00, Educatraffic and Bolt have planned circuits for driving skills and road safety in the area near the Town Hall. In addition, Bolt will distribute helmets among its members.

In addition, on Sunday 22nd the Local Police will set up its Children’s Traffic Park in front of the Government Delegation, a circuit where children can learn in a fun way about traffic signs, coexistence between vehicles and pedestrians or the safe way to walk on their routes to school. It will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

ROUND TABLES: SHARED MOBILITY AND INNOVATION

One of the main sessions will be held on Wednesday 18th, with a double session of round tables in which leading specialists will participate. They will be held in Etopia, in the morning, with free admission for the public. The first session will focus on “Modality as a service. The era of shared mobility” and the second on “Urban mobility and innovation: the future that is already here”.

GUIDED TOURS: A DIFFERENT LOOK AT OUR CITY

During Mobility Week, both Zaragozans and visitors will have the opportunity to take part in free tours that will take place on the weekend of 21 and 22 September and that will offer different routes and options: the Old Town; a walk to “Instagram” Zaragoza; the Divertour or a visit to the Real Maestranza de Caballería. Reservations for these tours, whose places are limited, can be made on the Zaragoza Tourism website.

24 HOURS ON SKATES AND SUSTAINABLE FAMILY WALKING

The programme will have a fun and family-friendly ending, where you can choose or combine cycling with skates. One of the new features of the programme will be the celebration of the 24 hours on skates, an activity proposed by the Patina Zaragoza association that will start on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the Plaza Lucas Miret at the Expo.

On Sunday morning, this activity will be added to the traditional Sustainable Family March, which in this edition will start from Plaza Aragón. It will have its first section on Paseo Independencia, first in the direction of Plaza España and then in the opposite direction, since coinciding with the World Car-Free Day, this city road will remain closed to car traffic on Sunday.

The arrival of this Family Walk will be in the surroundings of Mobility City. During the route there will be entertainment for the little ones and those who complete it will receive a bag that will include a free entrance to Mobility City and other gifts.
