From Hollywood to different areas of Teruel and Belchite. The Walking Dead “Daryl Dixon” is already saying goodbye to Aragon after landing in the Community with what is the largest shoot to date. A team made up of
nearly 350 people has worked on three sets in parallel in this historic enclave and its surroundings during the last two weeks.
This Hollywood blockbuster arrived in this town in Zaragoza after filming in different locations in Teruel. The filming has had great collaboration from Aragonese institutions, regions and town councils, as well as from the Aragón Film Commission and the Teruel Film Commission, which have been responsible for proposing locations, facilitating the processing of permits and contacts with suppliers.
Filming in Belchite has been complicated by the heavy rains that the last DANA brought to the area. The director of the episode, the Spaniard Paco Cabezas, arrived in Belchite looking for desert but had to deal with weather conditions that were unusual for the area. Even so, the production team has managed to complete its filming schedule without any major delays.
AMC has just released the trailer for season 3, which will arrive in 2025. It features shots from the episode filmed in Aragon. The main character Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) is seen riding a motorcycle through the Planerón de Belchite.
He can also be seen riding a horse along the Endesa railway line between Samper and Andorra. The filming in Teruel took place at the end of October and included the collaboration of the Zaragoza Association of Friends of Railways and Trams (Azaft), which provided one of its trains.
The third season of the popular series takes the main characters, Daryl and his friend Carol Pelletier (Melissa McBride), to Spain after their time in France and England. Along with the main characters, a good number of specialists have participated in these weeks of filming, in charge of interpreting the zombies that have arrived from the United States. Although there will be no Aragonese zombies in this episode, the production has included numerous local extras dressed as lepers.
Natalia Martínez, head of the Aragón Film Commission, has underlined the importance of this filming, “the largest ever to be held in this Community”. The recruitment of this production for filming in Aragón and the preparation of the arrival of the team has required nearly eight months of work.
The uniqueness of the proposed locations was decisive in the success of this blockbuster. The old town of Belchite has once again been an irresistible attraction for Hollywood. Filming in this historic enclave, a vestige of the Spanish Civil War, has required the intervention and collaboration of the Belchite Town Hall and the General Directorate of Heritage of the Government of Aragon, which have established the necessary measures to preserve the historic site.
