The Government Council has approved the declaration of Autonomous Interest of the project to build three plants for the treatment and valorisation of agricultural and livestock by-products and the production of biomethane in the Zaragoza town of Magallón and in Esquedas-La Sotonera and Candasnos in the province of Huesca. The three projects will be promoted by Glide Energy and will involve an investment of close to 87 million euros .
According to the submitted file, the Magallón plant is expected to be operational in the last quarter of 2025, and the Esquedas and Candasnos plants in the first quarter of 2026. In terms of job creation, the joint creation of 36 direct jobs and 105 indirect jobs is expected during the entire period of operation of the three plants. In addition, during the construction stage of the plants, it is expected to create 150 direct jobs.
The circular economy project involves collecting local livestock by-products (slurry, manure, chicken manure) and agricultural by-products (crop and agri-food industry waste) to valorise them through an anaerobic digestion process, which allows obtaining three products: biomethane; fertiliser and CO2. Underground gas pipelines will also be installed to connect the plants to the gas transport network, as well as monitoring equipment to ensure optimal operation.
