Transport puts out to tender for 6.7 million euros to reinforce the high-speed line in Zaragoza

The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has put out to tender for 6.7 million euros (VAT included) the works to reinforce the resilience of the high-speed line (LAV) between Madrid-Barcelona-French border, as it passes through the province of Zaragoza, in the face of adverse weather conditions and, in particular, for episodes of heavy rain.

The project, which will be carried out by Adif, includes carrying out various works at five points along a 13 km section of this line to reinforce its drainage system, facilitating the drainage of rainwater into the nearby Jalón River.

The works to be carried out include raising the level of service roads to prevent water from flowing onto the tracks, extending ditches , building retaining walls, channelling water from a stream under the tracks and new drainage works to increase drainage capacity.

In this regard, the Ministry has also recently contracted the deployment of lightning protection systems in the event of strong storms on conventional lines in Tarragona and Ciudad Real and the reinforcement of a railway bridge in the town of Valdepeñas. In this way, actions are being promoted to reinforce the resistance of the railway network to possible adverse effects derived from climate change.
