The solar eclipse of August 12, 2026, is shaping up to be one of the most significant astronomical events visible in Spain in the coming decades. Thousands of people are already searching for information on the eclipse’s timing in Aragon and the best times to observe this phenomenon, which will briefly turn day into night in parts of the region.
The time of the solar eclipse will vary slightly between Zaragoza , Huesca, and Teruel , although the most spectacular moment will arrive around 8:30 p.m. The 2026 total solar eclipse will also be the first visible from the Iberian Peninsula since 1912 and will place Aragon among the best locations in Europe to witness totality. While Zaragoza and Teruel will experience total darkness for more than a minute , Huesca will observe a very deep obscuration of the Sun, although not reaching totality in the city itself.
TIME OF THE SOLAR ECLIPSE IN ZARAGOZA
The solar eclipse time in Zaragoza will be one of the most searched in the months leading up to the phenomenon. The Aragonese capital will have the privilege of being within the path of totality , so it will be able to witness the Moon completely cover the Sun for more than a minute.
The eclipse will begin at 7:34:35 p.m. , when the Moon starts to obscure a small portion of the solar disk. Totality will begin at 8:28:57 p.m., at which point the city will be plunged into a darkness uncharacteristic of a summer evening.
The total phase will last 1 minute and 23 seconds and will end at 8:30:20 PM. Afterward, the light will gradually return until the eclipse is completely over at 9:07:35 PM , a few minutes before sunset.
TIME OF THE SOLAR ECLIPSE IN TERUEL
The solar eclipse in Teruel will be especially significant for amateur astronomers, photographers, and enthusiasts, as the province will be one of the best places in Spain to observe the phenomenon. A large part of the Teruel region lies very close to the path of totality, where the eclipse will reach its maximum duration.
The eclipse will begin at 7:36:50 PM . Totality will begin at 8:30:59 PM and will last for approximately 100 seconds, that is, 1 minute and 40 seconds , one of the longest eclipses that can be enjoyed in the country.
Total darkness will end at 8:32:33 PM , while the eclipse will definitively end at 9:05:54 PM. During totality, it will be possible to observe spectacular phenomena such as the solar corona, Baily’s beads, and the well-known diamond ring.
TIME OF THE SOLAR ECLIPSE IN HUESCA
In Huesca, the eclipse will begin at 7:33:45 p.m., making it one of the first Aragonese capitals to observe the start of the astronomical phenomenon.
Unlike Zaragoza and Teruel, the city will be outside the path of totality, so complete darkness will not occur. However, the amount of sunlight will be very significant and will cause a noticeable reduction in ambient light.
The eclipse will continue to progress until it reaches its maximum shortly before sunset and will end at 9:06:41 PM. Although most of Huesca will not see totality, the phenomenon will still be one of the most spectacular visible from the province in recent decades.
