August 12, 2026, will be no ordinary day on the astronomical calendar. The sky will darken in the middle of summer with a total solar eclipse that can be fully appreciated from various points in Aragon, and one of the privileged locations will be Trasmoz. This small town in the Moncayo region, known for its dark legend and for being the only excommunicated town in Spain, will lie within the path of totality and will experience a particularly significant duration of the phenomenon.
An eclipse of this magnitude hasn’t been seen on the Iberian Peninsula for over a century. For a few minutes, the Moon will completely cover the solar disk, turning day into night, the temperature will drop, and the horizon will be bathed in a twilight glow. This historic event will attract thousands of people and is already mobilizing towns like Trasmoz to make the day a unique experience.
True to its identity steeped in mystery and tradition, the town has named the event “Trasmoz, Guardian of the Eclipse .” The company Tiempo de Brujas is leading a special program that will begin in the morning with a guided tour of the town center and the 12th-century castle. Throughout the day, there will be astronomical and historical talks—with references to Bécquer’s three eclipses—as well as cultural and educational activities to provide context for the phenomenon.
The experience will culminate after totality with a closing ceremony that will include queimada (a traditional Galician drink) and sweets, as well as an Eclipse Pack for attendees: certified eclipse glasses, a waterproof backpack, a commemorative pin, an astronomical gift, and a certificate of participation. Simultaneously, the eclipse can be enjoyed freely from various points throughout the municipality, where an artisan and esoteric market will also be open to the public.
RESERVATIONS AND HOW TO SIGN UP
Bookings for the full experience are now available for €75 per person and €40 for children aged 2 to 6. Places are limited and can be reserved through the website www.tiempodebrujas.com, by email at info@tiempodebrujas.com , or by phone at +34 619 753 008. Next summer, Trasmoz will not only witness a total solar eclipse: it aspires to become one of the emotional epicenters of a phenomenon that will mark an entire generation.
