Aragon is full of towns that seem straight out of a fairy tale. From the Pyrenees to the Matarraña mountains, the region preserves corners that captivate with their history, architecture, and natural surroundings. But among them all, Albarracín has been chosen to make the international leap. This town in the province of Teruel has just been included on the list of “ Best Hidden Gems in Europe ,” compiled by the tourism website European Best Destinations.
” Albarracín is considered one of the most beautiful towns in Spain“, emphasize the ranking’s editors, who present it as an ” off-the-beaten-track ” destination, ideal for those seeking authenticity, beauty, and tranquility. The same list also includes places like Tenby in Wales, Corvo Island in the Azores, and the thermal waterfalls of Saturnia in Italy, but the only Spanish representative in this international ranking is this small town in Teruel.
PINK STREETS, CATHEDRAL AND ALCÁZAR
The publication recommends wandering through its ” narrow, winding streets“, admiring the pink-hued buildings, and exploring its ancient walls. As must-sees, they highlight the Cathedral of El Salvador and the Alcázar fortress, a privileged vantage point overlooking the entire town.
“During your stay in one of Europe’s hidden gems, be sure to visit the Cathedral of El Salvador and the Alcázar fortress,” the website emphasizes, also highlighting the local cuisine. Among its recommendations are two classics of Aragonese cuisine: roast lamb and migas with chorizo and garlic.
