The Saica Group has acquired the Thimm Group, a leading provider of sustainable corrugated cardboard packaging and display solutions. Founded in 1949 by Walter Felix Thimm, the company has grown to have locations in Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Romania. In 2024, Thimm generated revenues of approximately €539 million with a workforce of around 2,500 employees.
This acquisition brings it into the Saica Group, one of Europe’s leading paper and packaging manufacturers, headquartered in Zaragoza. Founded in 1943, this family-owned company generated revenues of approximately €3.962 billion in 2025 with over 12,000 employees. The purchase price is confidential.
PRESENCE OF SAICA AND THIMM IN EUROPE
Saica operates globally with 112 centers in Western Europe, Poland, and the United States . The Thimm Group has centers in Germany and Eastern Europe. Saica intends to continue operating within its existing structures. This ensures maximum continuity and security for both customers and employees.
Both family businesses have highlighted that they have maintained a close and fruitful collaboration since the late 1990s , which includes a strategic sales alliance and a joint venture in Poland.

Furthermore, he noted that “Thimm brings a strong regional presence” to areas where Saica had not previously operated. Therefore, he asserted that with this acquisition they see “significant potential” to reinforce their leading position “in the highly competitive European market.”
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Thimm Group, Mathias Schliep, commented that they have decided to sell the company to “the largest family-owned company in the sector in Europe, in order to secure Thimm’s growth prospects and long-term future under the strong umbrella of Saica.”
“For our employees, joining a strong family group offers long-term stability and security. The headquarters of both companies complement each other perfectly; together we cover all of Europe ,” he emphasized.
As part of the transaction, the Thimm family will withdraw completely from the company, as Schliep shared: “Although this step has not been easy for the families, it is taken with the conviction that it offers Thimm the best possible prospects for developing a sustainable future.”
