The President of the Government of Aragon, Jorge Azcón, paid tribute to Manuel Giménez Abad this Tuesday in Brussels during the event “Europe with Memory: Manuel Giménez Abad, 25 Years Later ,” held in the Presidential Hall of the European Parliament . Azcón recalled that the former president of the People’s Party (PP) in Aragon was assassinated by ETA “for being a democrat” and for defending “freedoms, the Constitution, and the values that unite us all.”

The head of the regional government emphasized that, a quarter of a century after the attack, it remains necessary to “honor” the figure of Giménez Abad because “he is a hero of our democracy.” “He gave his life to defend the ideas that allow us all to live together in peace and freedom,” he stated during his address.

Azcón also warned that terrorism “does not have the weight it should have in politics today” and criticized EH Bildu’s influence on the governance of Spain . In this regard, he maintained that the President of the Spanish Government “is president thanks to the votes of Bildu,” a party he linked to “the heirs of ETA terrorism.”

MEMORY OF THE VICTIMS

The president of Aragon also defended the need to continue remembering “what terrorism was” and the role of the victims, whom he described as “the heroes of our democracy.” In his view, it is essential to prevent the fear, extortion, and murders committed by the terrorist group over decades from “falling on deaf ears. “

Azcón also highlighted the work of the State security forces in the end of ETA and recalled that, although the terrorist organization “no longer kills”, those who represent its political legacy “continue to have a central role in Spanish political life”.
