A magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck central Japan on Monday , triggering tsunami warnings in several parts of the country. The quake, which occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, prompted Japanese authorities to issue immediate alerts.
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has reported the earthquake and warned of a tsunami risk that could affect various coastal areas. The agency is monitoring the situation and has activated its rapid warning systems, which issue alerts within minutes of an earthquake when there is a risk of dangerous waves.
WAVE ALERT UP TO THREE METERS
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has warned of the possibility of waves up to three meters high in Iwate Prefecture and Hokkaido Island. These forecasts have led to the reinforcement of prevention systems in the most exposed areas.
According to the agency’s own alert system, these warnings include estimates of wave height and their potential arrival on the coast , allowing for the activation of evacuation measures in the affected areas.
The warning was later backed up by the Japanese public television alert system, which confirmed the arrival of the tsunami, thus activating emergency protocols for the population.
