Zaragoza is setting the pace for used vehicle sales in Aragon . The province recorded a total of 3,867 transactions in June, including passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, an 8% increase compared to the same month last year. This growth contrasts sharply with the drop in sales in Huesca and the almost nonexistent growth in Teruel.
Across the region, 5,478 used vehicles were sold in June , a 3.5% increase compared to the previous year. Of these, 4,667 were passenger cars, also a 3.5% increase, and 811 were light commercial vehicles, a 3.6% increase. Even so, Aragon’s sales growth fell short of the national average for Spain, where the market grew by 6.3%.
ZARAGOZA MAKES THE DIFFERENCE
The figures by province clearly show that Zaragoza was the driving force of the Aragonese market in June. Passenger car sales increased by 7.6% , while light commercial vehicle sales rose by 10.8%, reaching 3,867 transactions.
The situation was very different in the rest of the region. Huesca registered a 9.5% decrease in the overall market, with declines in both passenger cars (-9.3%) and vans (-10.1%). In Teruel, sales barely grew by 0.5% , as the 1.2% increase in passenger cars offset the 2.7% decrease in light commercial vehicles.
Aragon grows faster than the average year-to-date
In the first six months of 2016, Aragon recorded 32,302 used vehicles sold , representing a 2.5% increase compared to the same period of the previous year. This total includes 27,356 passenger cars, also up 2.5%, and 4,946 light commercial vehicles, with a 2.2% increase. The region’s growth surpasses that of the country as a whole, where the market grew by 1.9% in the first half of the year.
By province, Zaragoza remains the only one to improve its year-to-date figures, with 22,263 transactions , 4.3% more than a year ago. In contrast, Huesca saw a 1.3% decrease to 6,176 sales, and Teruel fell by 1.2% to 3,863 transactions.
Across Spain, the used car market continues to evolve towards more efficient engines . In June, sales of electric cars grew by 50%, while sales of plug-in hybrid gasoline vehicles increased by 55.4%. Despite this, combustion engine vehicles remain dominant, accounting for 82.8% of transactions during the month.
