The Plaza Linear Park will begin its transformation into a large, sustainable forest of approximately 680,000 square meters . The project includes modernizing the irrigation system, which will be converted to drip irrigation, and the gradual planting of new tree areas with the aim of improving environmental sustainability and optimizing resource consumption.
The actions will be carried out by Aragón Plataforma Logística (APL) and the Urban Conservation Entity (EUC) of Plaza , which will also constitute a Monitoring Commission to supervise the execution of the project.
The Board of Directors of Aragón Plataforma Logística, meeting this Friday, approved APL’s financing of the modernization works with an investment of €1.42 million . For its part, the EUC will assume the upkeep and maintenance of the park starting next October. According to the agreement, APL will recoup this investment in five and a half years by ceasing to bear the maintenance costs of the facility.
LESS WATER CONSUMPTION AND MORE WOODED AREAS
The planned improvements will allow the park to be adapted to a model with lower water and energy consumption . To achieve this, the current sprinkler irrigation system will be replaced with a drip irrigation system, the hydraulic and electrical infrastructure will be renovated, automation systems will be installed, and obsolete facilities will be removed.
“Furthermore,” noted the Minister of Housing, Development, Logistics and Territorial Cohesion, Octavio López, “a progressive evolution towards a park-forest model will be promoted, with new tree plantings that will favor biodiversity and reduce maintenance needs.”
PLAZA EXCEEDS 95% OCCUPANCY
The councilor highlighted that ” Plaza is the jewel in the crown of logistics in Aragon , with important investments underway such as the new access via Puente Turiaso, with expansions under study and others already on the horizon through the logistics development of Sector 90/1, but, in addition, we want it to also be a friendly and natural environment that the platform’s own workers and citizens can enjoy.”
López explained that the logistics platform is already over 95% occupied and announced that it will be expanded by 2.2 million square meters through the development of Plaza 4.0, “whose Declaration of General Interest of Aragon (DIGA) is about to be presented” and the land linked to the Turiaso Bridge.
The councilor pointed out that these expansions will temporarily alleviate the saturation of available land in Plaza, although he warned that “it will probably not be enough,” so the Government of Aragon will have to study new land to continue attracting industrial projects.
